We Have a Minister!

To my beloved community,

It is with great pleasure that I announce the hiring of Kevin DeBeck as our new contract minister!

Kevin is a recent graduate of Meadville-Lombard Theological School (a dedicated UU seminary in Chicago), and he is on track to receive his preliminary fellowship with the UUA as of September, 2018. Though new to ministry, he has been a Unitarian Universalist for decades and is married to a long-time UU minister. He currently resides in Elkhart, Indiana, where his wife serves the local UU congregation. As our part-time minister, Kevin will maintain an apartment in our area and be here every other week for a full week at a time.

One thing that really stood out to us in the interview process with Kevin is his fervent commitment to social justice. He considers his personal theology to be based in the lesson that comes from James 2:14-26, which can be summarized as “faith without works is dead.” We – your Board – believe he is someone who will encourage us all to truly live our Unitarian Universalist faith through our works and deeds.

Kevin’s first day in the pulpit will be Sunday, August 19, 2018. I hope all of you will attend service that day and join us in welcoming him to Tree of Life!

In faith,

Carrie MacDonald, Board President
