Compassion for Campers Starts Up Again

On April 30, 2013, the PADS centers in McHenry County will be closing for the season. As a small way to assist the many homeless in the county we will be continuing our Compassion for Campers program starting on May 6. For those of you unfamiliar with what Compassion for Campers is, it is a program that our Social Justice Committee started last summer to collect and distribute much needed supplies to the now “camping out” homeless. And in the spirit of fellowship and compassion we organized weekly Monday picnics at the PADS headquarters on Kishwaukee Valley road in Woodstock. Last season we partnered with other churches and service groups from the county to make a real difference in the lives of a very underserved segment of our community. We will once again be asking for volunteers from the congregation to help serve lunch, supply food, spend time just visiting with people who often are in the shadows. It is a way to do good while having a good time! We will soon have a collection box for donated supplies and a list of needs. Please watch for more announcements as the month progresses. If you would like more information or would like to volunteer in anyway, please contact Sue Rekenthaler or Lisa Jacobsen.
