Tree of Life Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 5603 Bull Valley Road in McHenry will host an on-line forum to discuss the truth about the controversial Illinois Safe-T Act and Illinois Pretrial Fairness Act an end to automatic cash bail this Saturday, October 22 at 5pm on Zoom.
“Much misinformation and fear mongering has been spread during the current election campaigns,” according to Tree of Life Social Justice Chair Patrick Murfin. “We want to let voters know the truth about these issues.”
Tree of Life is partnering with the UU Prison Ministry of Illinois (UUPMI) and their allies at Coalition to End Money Bond (CEMB) which argue that pre-trial detention for the inability to post a cash bail is a de facto punishment for being poor. They will also show that judges will still have the power to prevent release of violent offenders who are a risk to individuals and the community.
Briana Payton and Matthew McLoughlin of the CEMB will make the presentation and answer questions from attendees.
The public is welcome to join the program free of charge on Zoom at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84824050866?pwd=YlpSMTV4YktZd0RxenJ3Rlp5bUdpQT09 .

Will a recording of this forum be available afterwards for those who miss seeing it live? I wish to host a discussion on this topic in this week’s Tree of Life Coffee With Questions discussion period 9am-10:30pm also available on Zoom.
