Nick Madaus’ Faith Statement

Hi everyone, my name is Nick, and I’m here today to deliver to you my Faith Statement, or “Credo.” It’s been a long road to get to this point, and there were quite a few potholes along the way, but, honestly, unless Bull Valley finally opens their eyes, it’s going to stay that way.

So, anyway, as I said, I’m here to deliver my Credo. To start off, I don’t believe in a god. I actually enjoy Mr. George Carlin’s take on Religion. I believe he said something along the lines of-and I quote-”I decided, instead of worshiping a god, to worship the sun. And just like that, overnight – well, not actually overnight because you can’t see the sun at night- but first thing the next morning, I became a sun worshiper” End of quote. Carlin worships the sun because, as he states later in the skit, it’s something he can see, therefore he knows it exists.

I believe that we should follow the Golden Rule, you know; “Do unto others as they shalt do unto you”, and that the seven UU principles are a good moral code to live by. I think that Logic should be able to tell us what to do, right from wrong, most of the time. The rest of the time, just go with your gut.

I don’t know what happens after we die, I honestly don’t want to know, and I guess I’ll have to wait to find out.

I’d like to take a moment to thank each and every one of you who have helped me on this journey, Sue, M.E., Misha, Michelle, and especially Tom Tipton, my mentor, who gave up hours of his time to sit and talk with me.

To close this up, I’d like to thank each and every one of you who have interacted with me as I take this journey into adulthood, because all of you have, in some way, influenced my decisions. Thank you.
