Time to Make our Playspace a Reality

We need your help!

Hip, hip, hurray, we’re ready to start mulching! Calling all volunteers to assist in this final push to make our playscape a reality.

This Saturday, September 18: Chainsaw Day 9am-3pm

Need: People to bring chainsaws and have at least some experience using them.

Main Job: Prepping tree debris to be chipped and clearing out undergrowth from our property line. We can use any and all volunteers who are ready to work, even if you cannot commit to the entire time. More hands make for light work!

Other jobs: People to haul the cut debris to the chipping pile, rake debris, etc. I am asking for adults only at this point (or possibly teens who are ready to work under their parents close supervision). Please contact Heather at 815-509-7862 if you plan to come after 1pm to make sure there is still enough work to be done.

This Sunday, September 19: Chipping Day NOON until we’re done

For anyone who has not yet attended a Board listening session, I strongly urge you to attend the session after service before coming to lend a hand. Please plan to come as you are able. We will happily welcome you to contribute as many or as few hours as you have available!

Need: Adult team to run chipper (you will be trained)

Main Job: Feed chipper and keep it moving!

Other jobs: Haul debris to chipper, rake and sweep debris from the parking lot as our pile gets smaller. Shovel and rake wood chips into the playspace.

Safety jobs: keep a supply of cold water and drinks available to workers, coordinate snacks and food, and keep an eye out for heat-related incidents.

For both workdays, please plan to bring any safety equipment you have. Gloves and safety glasses are recommended, as are sunscreen, hats, long pants, sturdy shoes, a long sleeve shirt (removable!), and bug spray that protects against ticks. Rakes and wheelbarrows are welcome. Masks will be worn except for jobs where communication is vital for safety, or adequate distance can be maintained. Vaccination is recommended but not required. Non-vaccinated volunteers are expected to wear masks.
RSVP is encouraged but not required to Heather dre@treeoflifeuu.org or text to 815-509-7862.
