Book Group’s next meeting will be at 7 pm on Friday, May 3, at Tree of Life and online. We’ll be talking about The Kitchen Front, by Jennifer Ryan. This novel takes us back to the Second World War, at a time when things in Britain were not going well. A male-hosted BBC show called The Kitchen Front gave cooking tips to British housewives for how to make the best of the meager supplies they were able to get with their ration cards, and, for those who had them, their own gardens and farm animals. Enter the Kitchen Front Competition, a contest to find a qualified female co-host for the show. Which of four women, all in very different social and economic circumstances, will win the coveted position?
