Standing in Solidarity with our Immigrant Neighbors

Friends,
Our immigrant neighbors in McHenry County continue to struggle with loss of
employment, sudden detainment and deportation of loved ones, and the constant fear
and uncertainty the current political climate has amplified. Due to the threats against
them, many fear leaving their homes and are relying on others for the necessities of life.
We can help.

Over the past few months, a small (but mighty!) group of concerned volunteers from
First Congregational Church of Crystal Lake, Tree of Life Unitarian Universalist
Congregation in McHenry, and Blue Lotus Buddhist Temple in Woodstock have
organized to form the Community Action Network (CAN). This small task force has been
working to provide regular deliveries of food and supplies to nearly 100 immigrants in
our area. In the families we are serving, there are 36 children, 9 of them still in diapers.
The support they have received has had a tremendous impact and demonstrated our
solidarity with and love for our neighbors.

Unfortunately, one-time donations will not continue to fund these ongoing efforts. The
initial cash reserves have been depleted. To continue to support these families, we are
reaching out to ask if you would consider making regular donations to ensure the
sustainability of this important effort.

Can you support these families through regular, monthly donations? Our
requested monthly donation is $25.00. However, any amount and frequency is
welcome your continued support is greatly appreciated!

For reference in considering how much to donate: One delivery of rice, beans, oil,
tortillas and a small number of seasonal vegetables or fruit costs $20. One
delivery of diapers and wipes costs approximately $30. Volunteers are providing
all of the logistics in getting these supplies to families.

To streamline the fundraising efforts, we have partnered with First Congregational
Church (FCC) and donations can be made through their website. All donations are
secure, tax deductible, and go directly to buying supplies for the families in need.
Please see the following/attached giving guide for instructions on how to help.
Thank you for your continued support.
