A recording of this program is now available along with the chat file and a poster that was mentioned by an attendee. Pre Trial Fairness Presentation

We will host an on-line forum to discuss the truth about the controversial Illinois Safe-T Act and Illinois Pretrial Fairness Act an end to automatic cash bail this Saturday, October 22 at 5pm on Zoom.

“Much misinformation and fear mongering has been spread during the current election campaigns,” according to Tree of Life Social Justice Chair Patrick Murfin.  “We want to let voters know the truth about these issues.”

Tree of Life is partnering with the UU Prison Ministry of Illinois (UUPMI) and their allies at Coalition to End Money Bond (CEMB) which argue that pre-trial detention for the inability to post a cash bail is a de facto punishment for being poor.  They will also show that judges will still have the power to prevent release of violent offenders who are a risk to individuals and the community.

Briana Payton and Matthew McLoughlin of the CEMB will make the presentation and answer questions from attendees.

The public is welcome to join the program free of charge on Zoom at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84824050866?pwd=YlpSMTV4YktZd0RxenJ3Rlp5bUdpQT09 .
