A question we ask ourselves is ‘who are we’. The answer is neither simple or unchanging. There are many things that we are and many things that we are not. We are complicated and our self identity changes over time. An experience might lead us to experiment with a emergent way of being in the world. Or it might be that we find that our true self has always been there hidden beneath layers of the expectations others have of us. On June 8, Alan will explore these and related ideas.
The Rev. Dr. Alan Shear is a member of the Tree of Life Worship Arts team. In his life he has genuinely pretended to be a janitor, chaplain, day-laborer, and teacher among other roles.
