Our next potluck is November 12th, which also happens to be Diwali. Diwali is the Hindu festival of lights with its variations also celebrated in other Indian religions. It symbolizes the spiritual “victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance”. Our Fellowship spaces will be decorated for Diwali and our sanctuary will be full of lights for the Charles Troy “Secular Songs of Christmas” Show. Consider bringing a dish that fits the Diwali theme. Regardless of what you bring, filling out an index card indicating possible allergens or the ingredients is very appreciated. We will have a refrigerator, freezer and outlets for crockpots but no warming ovens. For more information, reach out to Lora Cantele lora.cantele@gmail.com.
Charles Troy’s “Making A List: The Secular Songs of Christmas” show is a perfect kick off to the Christmas season program and tells the story of how 13 popular secular Christmas songs were created while painting a vivid picture of America during the mid-20th century.
During this 90-minute multi-media presentation, the audience will learn how the following Christmas season songs were created: “White Christmas,” “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas,” “Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow!” “Here Come Santa Claus,” “I’ll Be Home For Christmas,” “Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire,” “Rudolph The Red-nosed Reindeer,” “Silver Bells,” “Frosty The Snowman,” “Winter Wonderland,” “All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth,” I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus,” and “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town.”
