Mariela has been learning lessons of welcome through serving as a hospital chaplain and chaplain educator. In this message, we’ll explore how to welcome feelings and stories –even painful ones –from others and ourselves. Let’s consider the relationship between acceptance and spiritual care.

Mariela Janelle Gonzalez lives in Oswego, Illinois with her spouse Allyson Rowley and stepkid, Sam. They share their home with a dog, Piper and cat, Frida. Mariela enjoys jigsaw puzzles, bonfires, and strong coffee.

She is an ACPE Certified Educator Candidate, supervising chaplain students in Advocate Health’s Central Chicagoland patient service area. She serves as staff chaplain and LGBTQ+ Ombudsperson at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.
