There are several places in sacred literature devoted to a list of who fathered whom. It would not be uncommon for a modern reader to simply skip over those lists and say quietly to themselves, “Who cares?” In the New Testament of the Bible, Matthew lists the earthly lineage of Jesus with a surprising twist. Matthew wanted us to care about Jesus’s family line because it reflects our own – and has relevance for generations yet to be born. The “Begats” have more importance than we might initially think. Gina Swinney is a retired educator having spent her career as a high school English/Theatre teacher and administrator in both McHenry Districts 15 and 156. She has been a member of the First United Methodist Church of McHenry for 45 years. Currently she serves as a lay Leader. She was brought into the Tree of Life family by friends who encouraged her to participate in Dille’s Follies alongside her two children. She and her husband, Emory live in McHenry.
