Trusting the Twists and Turns

Our Unitarian Universalist forebear, abolitionist Theodore Parker, inspired Martin Luther King, Jr.’s well-known quote that the “arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice.” Tracing the image of walking a labyrinth, today we will think about how we can trust the twists and turns that the moral arc can take.

Emily Mace, PhD, is a UU seminarian at Meadville-Lombard Theological School. She holds a master of theological studies from Harvard Divinity School and a PhD in religious studies from Princeton University, and she is delighted to be putting this background towards studying for UU ministry. When not in school, she is a writer, freelance editor, and religious studies academic living in Highland Park, IL, with her spouse and teen and tween children. Alongside these activities, Emily is a fiber artist, loves hiking and spending time outdoors, and enjoys recovering her skill on the French horn.

This Sunday our students are invited to participate in Create Cafe during the service. After the service, everyone is invited to stay for a tropical potluck lunch. We’re bringing the sunshine and warm weather inside! Join us for a potluck after church on March 16. Wear your Hawaiian shirt and sun hat, and bring your beach towel and a dish to share. Think pineapple and fruit on skewers, coconut cookies, tangy chicken wings, and tropical flavors. We’ll have some beach tunes over the speakers and a fun and festive atmosphere as we get warm inside. Volunteers wanted to help with decorating and clean up. Please sign up via the church email or RSVP to Lora.Cantele@gmail.com.
