During this time of turmoil and uncertainty, we continue to look for ways to show compassion to each other as well as those most vulnerable in our community. The Compassion for Campers program continues to serve the unhoused as the weather gets colder. We have migrant families who carry the constant worry of ICE showing up where they shop, worship or outside the schools their children attend. Food pantries are seeing a dramatic increase in need as well.
Let’s pull together and stock the shelves with essentials!
Compassion for Campers requests:
- Rain ponchos, Mylar blankets
- Tarps and sleeping pads, Tents and sleeping bags in serviceable condition, camping blankets, tabletop grills
- Individually wrapped toilet paper and paper towels
- Non-perishable food such as canned meat, high protein pasta, soups with pop tops
Supporting Migrants:
- Cooking oil
- Long grain white rice
- Pinto beans
- Tortillas, bread
Food Banks:
- Non-perishable foods that are most useful:
- Protein sources such as canned meat, beans, peanut butter
- Canned fruits and vegetables
- Complete meals such as hearty soups and boxed meals
- Basics such as rice, pasta, flour, sugar, cooking oil
- Special dietary foods such as gluten free, low sugar, low sodium
- Personal Care products such as:
- Shampoo
- Soap
- Diapers
- Feminine hygiene products
- Monetary donations are also a great way to make a difference and are tax-deductible. All these groups also desperately need volunteers! The commitment can be as little as an hour every other week or even administrative and coordination efforts from home
You can find collection points for each of these groups just inside the front door. For more information on how to get involved, please reach out to Sue Rekenthaler, Leah Mikkelson, or Chaplain Dave.
