Spirituality and Gender Non-Conformity Throughout History

Kristal Larson is the Executive Director of the LGBTQ+ Center Lake County, an organization committed to making Lake County a place for LGBTQ+ identifying persons and their families a place to feel welcome and thrive in their personal and professional lives. She blends her passion for social impact with her lived queer experience to increase visibility and awareness for LGBTQ+ people.

As the former Clerk for Avon Township, Kristal served as the first openly transgender elected member of the executive branch in Illinois and one of about 100 nationwide. She continues to work on policy and has helped to craft and pass legislation benefitting the LGBTQ+ community throughout Illinois. 

Ms. Larson enjoys working as a public speaker and educator around LGBTQ+ identities and issues. She has spoken at school boards across Lake County in support and defense of pro-LGBTQ+ policies. She regularly speaks and teaches at other professional and civic organizations about LGBTQ+ identities and inclusion best practices. She defended DEI at College of Lake County and continues to work with diversity staff and students. She worked at vaccinating people during covid. She provides support and assistance changing lives with Name Changes and gender changes – interfacing with the SA and Clerk. She works with the American Legion Auxiliary as a Chaplain and volunteer serving the military community. Kristal also works to change policy with Equality Illinois and working with state representatives and senators.

After the service, Ms. Larson will provide a SafeZone training for the entire congregation. This free one-hour workshop will provide an introduction to LGBTQ+ issues and is easy to connect to.

Children and youth are invited to begin the day in our service and then go to WonderLab after the story for all ages. After the service, everyone is invited to stay for coffee (and juice) and conversation. Coming of Age Youth Group will meet at noon. Parent’s of Adolescents Small Group Ministry will also meet at noon. SafeZone workshop will meet at noon in the sanctuary.
