Hope, Uncertainty, & Vulnerability

In our lives, hope is often described as an unquestioned good, but what if hope also asks something of us? Drawing on my experience as a Clinical Pastoral Education student at a local hospital, this week’s message explores the surprising relationship between hope, uncertainty, and vulnerability. Together, we’ll consider how offering hope can be an act of generosity that carries responsibilities, and how receiving hope requires courage and trust. Through the lens of our shared UU values of Generosity and Interdependence, we’ll reflect on the ways we accompany one another when the future is uncertain. Rather than offering easy answers, this sermon invites us to consider how we can faithfully support one another through life’s unknowns.

Like a Good Neighbor…a note from Chaplain Dave Becker

Dear Tree of Life members and friends,

It is such an exciting time to be part of Tree of Life as we build new relationships with members of RCLPC and MCJC. As we settle in to our new home and ‘learn the ropes’ in our new area, we have a few requests of each of you.

The building we are now worshiping in is amidst a residential neighborhood, and we have new neighbors, outside of our congregations, who are also adjusting to having a bit more traffic rolling by lately, especially on Sunday mornings. Our Co-Op team made of representatives from our three congregations are discussing ways to get to know our new neighbors and neighborhood in order to develop positive relationships with them. In the meantime, we would like to ask all Tree of Life members and visitors to consider the following:

  • Remember to always drive carefully and respectfully through our neighborhood. Absolutely no speeding at any time (even if running late).
  • When making deliveries at the church, please pull up as close to the curb as possible so as not to block the roadway. Alternatively, please consider using the back entrance to do your drop-off.
  • When you see a neighbor while on church grounds, feel free to give them a smile and wave. Let’s communicate care and caring for our new neighbors and our new neighborhood in all our actions.

With gratitude, Chaplain Dave Becker
